why I design

Throughout my career, I've remained steadfast in two core principles: serving others and fostering creativity.

As a Black neurodivergent woman, I’m particularly aware of the impact business and design decisions can make on underrepresented communities when they are not present in the problem-solving process. Transitioning from graphic design to product design has empowered me to advocate for inclusivity and representation in critical decision-making and aligning business objectives. Most importantly, it allows me to bring innovative solutions to fruition, bridging the gap between creativity and practicality.

skills, skills, all types of skills!

  • A skilled product designer is like a Swiss Army knife — adaptable to any situation. By thinking strategically, from business, technology, and user perspectives, I'm able to influence the product vision and roadmap, while generating buy-in from partners and teammates.

  • In an Agile environment, balancing speed and quality, while keeping user needs at the forefront is the ultimate goal. Which is why I work to create productive and healthy relationships with my multi-disciplined team, by establishing shared understanding. Collaborating with product managers and engineers to create and build, because no great product is designed in a vacuum.

  • Design thinking is infusing design principles into problem solving. I create knowing that, ultimately, my effectiveness as a designer is directly correlated to how well I can influence non-design teams and stakeholders to rethink established paradigms and incorporate design thinking into product development.

  • As a graphic designer I was skilled at working with brand systems and now as a product designer I'm expanding my knowledge of design systems. I partner with design leadership, accessibility experts and engineers to maintain, grow and continuously evolve design systems.

  • As a life long learner and self-proclaimed advocate, I'm passionate about designing for groups that are so often underrepresented and overlooked. I am constantly developing new skills, discovering new approaches, and considering new perspectives in an effort to create not only accessible, but equitable solutions.
